WASHINGTON, D.C., July 26, 2000 - Building on its commitment to serve as an information resource to the higher education community, Higher Education Washington, Inc. (HEWI) announced today the initiation of the HEWI NewsLine, the online higher education news source for the education industry. NewsLine offers an online news summary on developments in higher education and related fields. The new service provides short news summaries on higher education developments, distance education, technology on campus and education finance-related issues. NewsLine is free through HEWI’s website at www.hewi.net and includes the capability for users to sign up for periodic e-mail alerts that will inform them of breaking posted news.
HEWI NewsLine builds on the company’s three existing newsletters, Student Lending, Information Technology in Postsecondary Education (ITPE), and Information Technology in Student Aid (ITSA). Included in Newsline coverage will be short postings on news covered in detail in the three publications as well as news on interesting higher education trends and events. “With NewsLine, HEWI is both expanding our news operations and our outreach to the higher education community, said HEWI President John E. Dean. “NewsLine also serves as a building block for future publications and conferences, some of which we expect to announce later this year.
NewsLine’s coverage of breaking developments will include additional links to source documents, and updates will be posted several times per week to assure currency. Contributing to the NewsLine content will be editorial staff from all three current HEWI publications as well as outside contributors. The site also offers the capability for schools, organizations and companies within the higher education community to submit news that is of interest and appropriately fits with NewsLine’s content and focus.
