A New Book on Higher Technical Education

September 5, 2004 -- This book is a result of over twenty-five years of the author’s experience as an International Educator. It records his experiences, ideas and thoughts on higher technical education and how excellence may be achieved in this arena. Since his professional experience is an International one, this book will be of use Internationally. The book is primarily concerned with higher technical education of the level of a bachelor’s degree or more i.e. Professional education in the engineering and technological disciplines. Many of the guidelines included for the planning of new universities are a result of the author’s own study and are therefore not available elsewhere in published literature.

The emphasis of the present book is on technical universities though much of the material is useful and relevant for other universities as well. The material will be useful for both new universities as well as established ones. The proposals of this book are written from the point of view of the highest levels of excellence that prevail in higher education. Existing universities may study it to compare their own practices in order to evaluate changes for the better. Other institutions such as the affiliated college must study it and adapt whatever practices they are able to so that one day they may acquire a university status of their own and rise to excellence. The author hopes that it will be read widely, by any person interested or involved with any aspect of higher education in any country of the world. He strongly believes that they will find something useful in it that contributes to the overall progress of mankind on our fragile planet.
